Broken: Attempts at “Smart” Fridges
So far the people making fridges are trying to make them “smart” by making sections of them pressure sensitive. Then the fridge knows if the milk is low because of the weight on the milk’s pressure pad.
Problem, we all want to have our fridges tell us what we need but there are a couple hic ups to deal with here! One, we don’t, at least I don’t, stick the milk in the same place all the time. Call me a breaker of habits or what have you. I don’t care, I just don’t like the rigidness of the weight system enough to buy into it. Further, I would have to buy a new fridge to experience this rigidness I don’t want.
I like my problem of not knowing what is in my fridge more than I like the idea that I have to stick things in certain places and I have to buy a new fridge, hello… the environment and my pocket book don’t want that expenses.
So, what do I want… I want a camera and light trigger package! It is simple really. I want a wi-fi camera that I can login to and when I do an extension device engages the light trigger so the light comes on and I can see what is in my fridge. This camera could be mounted on a slide (on top, say) or be a two camera package (one front and one back but both facing opposite directions.
We could market this to… Everyone with a fridge and wi-fi! It would be simple to install. It would be easy to access via iphone (the most obvious example) and could be fired up to see how much milk, say, is left in the fridge at home.
Please let me know when this gets built or better, I’d love to be a part of the development process. Either way, I will be the first to buy and try.
